About Depreo

Depreo is a small piece of software for the person who keeps track of what a small United States organisation owns. It has two halves. The worksheets are free and compute on the page from the numbers you type in: one fixed asset line's depreciation and book value, the IT estate's replacement value and reserve, and a discovery pass's coverage against the register. Depreo Pro is the register those lines belong in: every asset with its cost, its dates, its holder, its location and its status, the depreciation run each period, the disposals and the history, kept and exportable at any time.

Why this site exists

This site exists because in most small organisations the register of what they own is three spreadsheets that disagree, kept by three people, and the moment an auditor, an insurer or a grant officer asks what the organisation owns and what it is worth, somebody spends a week reconstructing it. The depreciation arithmetic is simple, the record of what was bought, issued and disposed of is what answers the question, and neither deserves a file nobody can find in January.

Who it is for

The owner, bookkeeper, office manager or IT manager of a company with five to two hundred people, or the business manager of a school, church or laboratory, with a few hundred assets and devices and a register that lives in a spreadsheet today

Not a maintenance manager running work orders on plant, not a fund manager or investor, not a hospital tracking equipment by radio, not a warehouse counting stock for sale, and not a tax preparer deciding what a return may claim

What it does not do

  • No accounting opinion and no tax ruling: which method your books should use and what your return may claim are your accountant's and your preparer's answers, and the documents cited on each page are where those conversations start
  • No valuation of your assets: Depreo computes book value from the cost, life and salvage value you enter, and never estimates what a thing is worth
  • No maintenance, no work orders and no condition monitoring: Depreo records what you own and where it is, never when it was last serviced
  • No ranking of asset management products and no vendor introductions: this site publishes no product's rating and sells no leads

What is on this site

3 free tools, each working its figure on the page with no account, and Depreo Pro that keeps the record. All tools · Pricing.

  • IT asset inventory management: Put in the laptops, phones, servers and paid seats with what each would cost to replace, and see what the estate is worth, what sits out of warranty, and the reserve a month to refresh it.
  • Fixed asset register: Put in one asset's cost, salvage value, useful life and years in service, and see the straight-line and double-declining-balance depreciation, the accumulated depreciation and the net book value today.
  • IT asset discovery tools: Put in the ranges you scanned, what answered, how many agents reported and how many devices are on the register, and see the coverage and the number of devices nobody had written down.

What Depreo Pro keeps

Upgrading turns a worked line into a register. The asset you priced on the worksheet is filed against your organisation with its holder and location; the depreciation runs each period without anyone reopening a spreadsheet; a disposal is recorded with its date and proceeds; and the fixed asset report at year end is a print, not a project.
